“Hark!” the herald angels sing. “Glory to that beautiful festive season-friendly social media grid!”… Or something like that. ‘Cos after I’m done with you, Christmas Carols are definitely going to be sung in your honour! Or sung in your social media grids honour, at least.

Who here is a little Christmas crazy? (I have both hands up, by the way.) I LOVE decorating for the festive season, listening to my fave NSYNC Christmas album and this year I’m back home in Toronto, so I have my fingers crossed for a white Christmas.

There are plenty of ways to imbue the Christmas magic into your social media too.

To get you started, here are some of my pro designer approved dos and don’ts for festive season-fying your social media.

DO … create original content.

Sharable content in the spirit of giving, like funny holiday-themed quotes, is a brilliant way to give your social media a festive season makeover.

DON’T … overdo it.

Stick to your branded colour palette and consider adding metallics if red/green don’t fit.

DO … say thanks.

A nice way to make your followers feel loved is to devote one of your posts to thanking them for hanging out and supporting you. #spiritofchristmas

DON’T … forget your purpose.

Continue to add value on your social media by providing inspiring, engaging, thought-provoking and entertaining content.

DO … plan your grid in advance.

The prettiest grids aren’t born; they’re made. Make yours the prettiest in town by planning it out in advance in an app like Planoly.

DON’T … over-promote.

I know it can be tempting to go overboard with festive season specials and sales, but try to limit how much sales content you post to avoid alienating your audience.

DO … make it interactive.

This is a great time to experiment and have fun creating quizzes, videos and interactive content that entertains and engages your audience.

DON’T … throw it together last-minute.

The last thing you want is for your social to look sloppy and unprofessional. Speaking of which …

DO … consider hiring a pro to makeover your grid.

A professional graphic designer can work wonders on adding touches of festive season beauty (blended with plenty of visual strategy) to get your biz and grid seen and loved.
