3 myths you need to let go of when building a brand

If you’re still thinking only big businesses have brands and you don’t need one – I’m about to rock your world.

The truth is that anyone can start a brand and anyone can have a successful brand (yes, including YOU).

I’m going to share three of the top myths or assumptions I hear on the regular AND their corresponding truths. Because if you know anything about me – you know that I am ALL about helping you achieve brand stardom – we’re talking La Mer status.

Let’s break it down!

THREE MYTHS YOU NEED TO ABANDON IN ORDER TO BUILD A BRAND

1. A brand is a logo.

For me, this belief is equivalent to you hearing nails run along a chalkboard. Yikes!  Your brand is so much more than a logo. It’s a feeling, it’s an essence, it’s a whole experience. Your brand is going to walk your audience through the transformation your product or service provides. It’s going to set the tone for your audience and it’s going to turn followers into straight-up purchasers.

You can start by defining your why and how you want your audience to feel when they come across your brand. Identifying this feeling will allow you to dream up a world of possibilities for your brand personality. When you are unapologetic in your brand personality and get clear on your target audience, others will be drawn to you in the most captivating way.  This paves the way for you to further embody your brand.

2. It’s too late to start a brand.

I thought number one was bad, well, this just makes me sad. If there’s one thing you take away from this, know that it is never, ever, ever too late! Every day is a new opportunity to start.

Don’t believe me? Did you know that Vera Wang didn’t start professionally designing clothes until she was 39. Now the wedding industry is completely dominated by her haute couture designs. If that isn’t inspiring, I don’t know what is! It’s just a reinforcement that you are on your perfect path.

If you have an idea you have the foundation for a beautiful brand. You are just in need of a little guidance to bring the magic to life! And, when you’re guided by someone who knows the road ahead you’ll fast track your progress (wink wink).

3. The only way to succeed is by hiring a branding agency.

I know, I know – you may be shocked to hear me say this, but I never want the idea of money to come in between you and your beautiful brand.

If you never start, you’ll never be successful. If you need to DIY some aspects of your brand at the beginning to save some cash – DO IT!

When I say DIY, I don’t mean throwing some random graphic at the wall, calling it a logo, and hoping it sticks! You can mindfully and meticulously bring to life a DIY version of your brand at the beginning of your biz journey.

If you’re a little fired up after reading this – GOOD! Let’s keep that momentum going.
